Tigers Fall to Proctor, Finish Season as Runners Up in Section 7AA

The Rush City softball team played in Cloquet on Thursday in their section championship game.

The Tigers once again headed north on Thursday to play against Proctor. It was the third meeting between the two teams in two weeks. As the game began it was clear it was going to be another defensive battle. Both teams struggled to get on base, but Proctor did so first adding the one run in the first inning. The Rails scored another run in the third but the Tigers stopped it at that. Then it was a stalemate between the two teams. The pitchers didn't give the batters anything easy to swing at, and when the ball was hit the fielders made great plays to grab the outs. The Tigers were able to get runners on base late in the game but just couldn't advance them to get them into scoring position. Rush City was down to their final three outs and needed at least two runs for the game to continue. The leadoff batter was able to reach via the walk then was advanced to 2nd on a sac fly. It seemed as if the Tigers were going to find a way to get the first run to cross, which would almost certainly provide the spark needed to get the 2nd run. But sadly the next two batters hit into outs and ended the game.

The Tigers finish the season as Section 7AA runners up.

The Tigers graduate 5 seniors from the team, but will bring back a solid younger group from this year.

Congrats to the Tigers on a fantastic season!
