Three Dead in Two Separate Incidents in Burnett County

Three are dead in Burnett County following two separate incidents on Friday evening.

The first incident happened around 5:01 p.m. when Burnett County dispatch recieved a call about two missing swimmers on Lipsett Lake in the Town of Rusk.

Multiple agencies responded, using air and water drones, underwater radar, boats, and divers. Grace Rhine and Kyree Schaw, both 18 years old and of Blaine, MN, were later located in 15-20 feet of water.

Life-saving measures were provided at the scene. The two were later declared dead.

A third individual was taken to Spooner ER for medical treatment and later released.

The Burnett County Sheriff’s Office says strong wind and choppy waters contributed to the drownings. The case is being investigated by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

Later that same day, dispatch received a call that one man had shot another in the Town of Siren around 8:30 p.m.

Life-saving measures were given to the victim, identified as Aaron Holmstrom 37-years-old of Siren, WI. He was declared dead at the scene.

18-year-old Ashton Heier of Siren has been taken into custody.

The case remains under investigation.

The Burnett County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Siren Police Department, St. Croix Tribal Police Department, North Ambulance, and the Burnett County Medical Examiner’s Office for their assistance.
