The City of Sandstone has received over a quarter of a million dollars from the State of Minnesota to assist in the remodeling of the old public school.
Colloquially known as "the rock," the school has sat empty for nearly two decades. Currently, the city is looking to redevelop the building into a 31-unit apartment complex with up to 12 affordable units.
The $258,500 grant is one of $1.9 million doled out by the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development for redevelopment across the state.
The project is anticipated to create one job, increase the tax base by $52,000, and leverage $9.4 million of private investment.
