The Tigers volleyball team played Esko on Saturday.
Rush City's volleyball team has made a home at Hermantown the last three years in the playoffs. The last two years ended with them leaving as section champions. This years game was a rematch of last years championship as they played Esko.
The Tigers got off to a bit of a slow start in the opening set. They kept the set close throughout, but Esko managed to pull away at the end to win it 25-19.
The Tigers seemed to shake off the jitters in the first set, because in the next two sets they had turned the match completely around. Rush City started the 2nd set with a 4-0 lead. But Esko wouldn't go down easy and made a comeback, but that was short lived as the Tigers pulled away to win the set 25-13.
The 3rd set was dominate and the Tigers made it look easy. They once again got off to a hot start with a 11-0 lead. The Tigers never looked back and won the set handedly 25-9.
The 4th set saw Esko make a 180 on their luck, after dropping the last two sets they came out with determination. They jumped on Rush City early and and forced them into some mistakes. The Tigers certainly weren't out of it, but their momentum had taken a hit it was even sliding in Esko's favor. As the set rolled along, Esko seemed to be getting stronger and lead late in the set 19-14. Rush City needed to get something going and needed to do it fast. After a timeout called, the Tigers took over the set and went on a 9-0 run to not just take the lead but nearly close out the se 23-19. Esko ended the run with a point of their own, but that was all they could muster as the Tigers won the set 25-20 and the match 3-1!
