The Tigers volleyball team hosted Barnum on Friday.
Rush City had another opportunity to protect home court in the playoffs. But the team they welcomed in were certainly battle tested and were looking for an upset.
As the first set began, both teams came out firing. Neither side was able to take firm control of momentum, as when one team scored the other side was close behind and didn't take long to tie the game. This continued throughout most of the 1st set. But the Tigers found a way to not only take the lead but also pull away late in the set. They won the set 25-16.
The 2nd set was vastly different from the 1st, the Tigers had gotten out to an early 7-0 lead, thanks in large part to the serving by Natalie Rood. She had piled up three Aces in those first 7 points. Barnum had called a timeout which worked, but only momentarily, as they did score a point. But quickly after that the Tigers built on their lead and never looked back. It was a lopsided set with Rush City winning 25-7.
The 3rd set started off well for both teams, but more so for Barnum considering the set they had just lost. The Bombers didn't have a lead but they kept the Tigers within reach. But sooner than later the Tigers had found a rhythm and once again began to pull away. The Bombers facing match point were able to score a few points but it was too little too late. The Tigers won the 3rd 25-11 and the match 3-0.
Rush City is headed to the semi finals, where they'll play against Two Harbors on Wednesday at Hermantown at 5:15PM.
