Pine County Sheriff's Office looks to identify driver in Willow River stop-arm violation

The Pine County Sheriff’s Office is working to identify a driver who almost hit two kids getting off the school bus in Willow River last week.

According to the sheriff’s office, the incident occurred on Thursday, Dec. 21, at about 3:22 p.m.

A red 1994 Ford Ranger with Minnesota plates drove through the extended stop-arm of the school bus on County Road 41.

Sheriff Jeff Nelson said the truck went past a vehicle that had stopped appropriately for the school bus.

"The vehicle went past a vehicle that had stopped appropriately, on the shoulder, and then came through where some kids were crossing the road," Nelson explained. "Obviously, a good outcome with the potential that was there, but we are still looking to talk to that driver."

Nelson also reminded drivers to remain vigilant on the road.

"If you watch that video, it's pretty scary how quickly something could have gone really, really bad," he said.

Anyone with information about the driver’s identity is asked to contact the Pine County Sheriff’s Office.
