The Dragons girls basketball team hosted Rush City on Thursday.
The first game between these two teams was lopsided in favor of Pine City. This time around that was not the case. The Dragons however did start the game white hot. They were dropping nearly all of their shots and the defense came up with a plethora of turnovers. It wasn't long before they pulled out to a double digit lead. But this Tigers team plays with a lot of heart and passion, they won't go down easy. They fought through the struggles and turnovers and their offense started to see things opening up. Their defense began to slow the Pine City offense down, though it was a Dragon lead 48-22 at half.
As the 2nd half began there was a different feel, the Tigers had pulled momentum their way. Rush City began to frustrate the Dragons, and the Tiger offense found more open lanes to the basket. Even though the Tigers were getting things to fall their way, the Dragons still found ways to add points on the board and managed to keep their lead at double digits. A big part of them keeping their lead was grabbing offensive rebounds and getting the second chance opportunities. Pine City ended the game on top 76-57.
The Dragons moved to 10-5 on the season, 7-0 in the Great River Conference and 3-2 in the section. They will play the Saints in St. Francis on Monday.
Rush City falls to 5-9, 3-5 in the conference and 1-5 in section play. They will host to Minneapolis North on Saturday.
