Pine City hosted Ogilvie last night.
The first set looked fairly even between the two teams. Neither of them could move ahead of the other and there seemed to be no momentum building. Ogilvie kept pace with Pine City till about the halfway point in the set, that's when the Dragons slowly started to pull away. Pine City took set 1 25-16. The second set was vastly different, Ogilvie controlled the pace from the first serve. Back and forth the teams went tying it up then taking the lead for their side. It seemed as if we may not end the second set, neither team giving an inch or willing to go away easily. It wasn't until late in the set that Pine City was able to get a few calls and points to go their way which helped them compile enough points to win the set 25-21.
The third set began with the Dragons out to the early lead. Pine City had things going their way and it looked like they may run away with the set. But much like Ogilvie has shown all year long, they refuse to go down without a fight. Though the Dragons held a decent sized lead the Lions were able to get things shifted to their side of the net. As the set moved to its later parts the Lions seemed to be getting better. But Pine City was able to grab the 24th point putting all the pressure on Ogilvie. But Ogilvie came back with three straight points and looked as if they were going to steal the set. Unfortunately, the Lions were unable to get any closer before the Dragons won the set 25-19.
Pine City improves to 10-3 on the season and 5-1 in the conference. They'll host East Central on Tuesday.
Ogilvie moves to .500 with the loss and will look to get back on track Tuesday when they host Braham.
