The Dragons boys basketball team played down at the Target Center on Friday.
Pine City played Lakes International Language Academy(LILA), at the home of the Timberwolves. A tradition that Pine City tries to do every year. It was a battle of the Dragons, yes both teams had the same mascot.
Much like they have all season, Pine City wanted to push the pace, but LILA was able to force a few bd shots and they capitalized and lead 4-0 early on. Pine City was able to get on the board but LILA quickly answered and was up 9-2. PC was able to jump start their offense with their first of three shots from behind the arc. They quickly took the lead 11-9. In a half where their defense played quite well, the offense didn't play bad, they just couldn't get things going consistently. Despite this they were still able to head into the half leading 31-14.
The defense was once again stellar in the 2nd half, allowing only 9 points in the entire 2nd half. The offense was able to find the consistency they lacked in the 1st half. They built on their lead and were able to get their JV guys on the court for a good chunk of time. The JV guys did well adding the final 5 points but they executed both sides of the ball well. Pine City finished off the game with the win 75-23.
Pine City had 25 steals in the game and a season low 4 fouls throughout the entire game. They'll play in a tournament over Christmas break up in Cloquet.
