The Pine City Council voted to remove trees infected with emerald ash borer from the 315 Main Street property at last week’s meeting.
The council unanimously agreed to contract with Blue Pine Works for $6,300 to remove 17 ash trees from around the government center.
Council member Kyle Palmer explained that the state department of agriculture confirmed the presence of EAB within the past year.
“As a certified arborist, I brought it to a council concern, and it was inspected,” Palmer said. “They were in decline after the county Highway 61 issue. They were looking at them for emerald ash borer, and they did confirm it recently, I believe, by the Department of Agriculture in the past year.”
Pine City is seeking requests for proposals from contractors for purchasing and redeveloping 315 Main Street through Feb. 3.
