The Pine City Council voted to approve an updated contracted fire aid agreement with Rush City after making some minor revisions to the language at a special meeting on Thursday.
According to the agreement, Rush City will not levy charges for assistance to the Pine City Fire Department unless the aid continues for more than eight hours, and/or the incident qualifies for FEMA disaster assistance.
At the meeting, Pine City fire chief Tom Miller said the department has handled maybe two FEMA-qualifying events over the past 10 years.
Pine City will levy charges for assistance to the Rush City Fire Department based on the city's rate schedule.
The agreement states that there will be a minimum charge of $500 for the mobilization of the Pine City Fire Department should Rush City's department request assistance.
The agreement goes through the end of December 2025.
The Pine City Council also included the addition of a termination clause to the agreement, and will notify Rush City of any changes to the rate schedule by Sept. 1.
The current agreement between Rush City and Pine City is set to expire after April 1.
