Pine City hosted Braham on Tuesday night.
This was the first meeting between these two teams this season. Braham came into the game looking to keep their top spot in their section and the conference, while Pine City was looking to help their standings as well.
The Dragons opened up the game with an 8-0 run in the first 3 minutes. Not to be outdone, Braham would answer with a run of their own, theirs would give them the lead after a 10-0 run. But Pine City ended the run and took the lead back, from here on the game was back and forth. Both teams trading the lead, and even though the offenses were the focus, the defenses still made their fair share of big stops. Near the end of the half Braham was able to take the lead, while Pine City got into a bit of a cold streak. The Bombers went into halftime with a 36-30 lead.
At the start of the 2nd half both teams came out firing, but the defenses quickly stepped up and slowed the scoring for a chunk of time. Each side was creating turnovers, but the offenses couldn't turn them into points. But it didn't take long for the buckets to start dropping once again. Braham held a lead until the 9 minute mark of the half. The Dragons were down by nearly double digits and had comeback and took the lead. Pine City was able to use their momentum from the comeback and held onto the lead till late in the game. During this 6 minute run the Dragons shooters seemingly couldn't miss, and the defense completely closed the door on any Braham attempts. The Bombers were not going to go away easy, and they eventually broke through to tie the game. For Braham they stole any and all momentum from Pine City and shut them out the rest of the way, finishing the game on a 10-0 run. Braham would come out on top 74-66.
Pine City has another chance at a conference win later this week, when they host Hinckley-Finlayson on Friday.
Braham will host Aitkin on Friday to try and keep their undefeated conference record in tact.
