Mora took on #3 seeded Annandale at St. Cloud State this afternoon.
The Mustangs wanted to get the three point shots going early. But the three’s just weren’t falling. But that didn’t matter much as the Mustang defense made getting any shots tough, much like it did during the regular season. As the game creeped closer to halftime, Mora started to drain the three’s. Sooner than later Mora had built themselves a 10 point lead over the Cardinals. But Annandale showed why they were the #3 seed as they stormed back, to bring themselves back within two. Mora held onto the lead going into halftime 28-26. At the beginning of the 2nd half, a few Mora players found themselves in a bit a foul trouble. Caleb Anderson, Andrew Rasmusson, and Garret Honstrom had three fouls each within the first 2 minutes of the 2nd half. The Mustangs didn’t let that bother them, as they continued to nail the three’s. Mora built on their lead, but Annandale wasn’t out of it yet. The Cardinals stormed back late in the game. Eventually, Annandale tied the game with 10 seconds left 64-64. With the pass inbounded, Mora needed a hero as time was sprinting off the clock. As time was running out, Lucas Athey had a chance to win the game. The clock hit zero, and Athey’s shot was good. Athey became the hero the Mustangs needed. Mora beat Annandale 67-64. Jeff Lillienthal lead Mora with 15 points. He was followed by Ben Wright and Cole Steffen with 14, and Lucas Athey had 10.
With the win, Mora moves on to the Section 6AA semifinals. Mora will play Pine City on Wednesday at St. Johns University with tip off at 745pm.
