MnDOT urges motorists, farm equipment operators to safely share road this fall

MnDOT is urging motorists and farm equipment operators to safely share the road this autumn.

According to a news release, motorists should be aware of large farm equipment transporting crops to markets, grain elevators and processing plants.

Crash data shows there were 446 crashes involving farm equipment in Minnesota from 2021 through 2023, resulting in eight deaths and 171 injuries.

MnDOT says farm equipment makes wide turns and sometimes crosses over the center line.

The vehicles can also create large blind spots, making it difficult for operators to see approaching traffic.

Motorists are asked to slow down and use caution when approaching farm equipment, and wait to find a safe place to pass.
