Knights Overpower Hornets, Claim Victory in Five

wcmpsports5

The Hinckley Knights hosted Ham Lake on Wednesday night.

The Knights played game 2 of 5 this week, against the Hornets. The last two games, which were wins, they have gotten out to early leads and they looked to do the same in this game.

Defensively, the game couldn't have started any better, a strikeout to begin the game and two straight outs. As the Knights came to the plate hoping for another fast start, it didn't go their way. Grounding out twice and the inning looked all but over, until Cale Haugen smacked a triple into the outfield. Isaiah Hasz came to the plate and reached via an error which also allowed Haugen to score. 1 run is all they could get in the first inning, but that would soon change. Another 1, 2, 3 inning at the top of the 2nd, all strikeouts from starting pitcher Bryce Erickson, helped the offense quickly get back to the plate. In their half of the inning they quickly reached base, with a hit from TJ Johnson and an RBI double from Shawn Ausmus. The next two batters were victims of fly outs and it looked to be another inning where only one run would score. That was until the next three batters were walked, two walked and one hit by pitch. With the bases loaded Hasz would reach and a 2 run single before the inning ended with the Knights leading 5-0. Another quick top of an inning put the Hinckley offense back to work, and in the 3rd they added 5 more runs extending their lead 10-0. The 4th inning would be the 4th consecutive 3 up and 3 down for the Hornets, thanks to a great effort from the defense. The bottom of said inning put the game away, the Knights scored 8 runs on 5 hits putting them up 18-0 and only needing three outs to end the game in the 5th with the 15 run rule in affect.

New pitcher same story, Cody Klein finished off the game allowing one base runner striking out one and grabbing the final out himself.

The Knights get the day off Thursday but turn around for three games in three days, starting on Friday vs MacStrength.
