The Hinckley-Finlayson volleyball team hosted Moose Lake-Willow River on Tuesday night.
The Jaguars jumped out to a huge lead in the 1st set. It looked as if they would run away with it, but the Rebels managed to score and slowly worked their way back. After tying the game in the middle of the set, the teams traded points neither able to pull ahead. As the 1st set neared the end MLWR found a way to grab the lead and stole the set 25-20. The 2nd set began much like the 1st, and it seemed as if the Jags wouldn't give the Rebels a chance. But again as the set moved along MLWR was able to find their groove and wound up winning set 2 25-20. Although they were down by 2 sets Hinckley-Finlayson never hung their heads and came out in the 3rd set with something to prove. Again scoring the first points of the 3rd set but this time around the Rebels took a lead early on. After surrendering the lead the Jags and Rebels went back and forth, trading points and each grabbing the lead at one point or another. But near the end of the set MLWR pulled in front and reached match point. Hinckley-Finlayson wasn't going down easy, facing match point they came back and scored two strong points and looked poised to overtake the lead and win the set. Unfortunately, the Rebels were able to find a hole in the defense and mash the ball for the final point winning the set 25-23 and the match 3-0.
The Jaguars will host Crosby-Ironton on Thursday looking to get back into the win column.
