An 18-year-old Hinckley man was sentenced on Monday to 278 months in prison after admitting to his role in a fatal mass shooting at a Minneapolis backyard concert venue in August of 2023.

In January, Dominic Burris pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting second-degree intentional murder and aiding and abetting first-degree assault in the shooting, which resulted in one death and at least seven others injured.

The criminal complaint alleges that witnesses reported overhearing insensitive and hostile comments about the sexual orientation of concert attendees from the suspects.

Burris was 17 years old at the time of the shooting, and was subsequently certified as an adult.

The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office also reached a plea deal with 18-year-old Onamia man Cyrell Boyd, who was a lesser-involved co-defendant in the case.

The deal required Boyd to testify against Burris, who was identified as the major instigator and perpetrator of the shooting, and included an eight-year public safety process with significant stayed jail time.
