Hinckley man arrested after allegedly firing gun at mother, barricading inside house

A Hinckley man was charged with second-degree assault and possessing a firearm after a crime of violence conviction after an incident Thursday where he allegedly fired a gun at his mother and barricaded himself inside his house.

According to the criminal complaint, the Mille Lacs Tribal Police Department was dispatched to a Grouse Trail residence in Hinckley just before 4 p.m. for a firearms complaint.

The reporting party stated that her son, Brandon Belisle, fired a gun at her. Belisle had multiple warrants for his arrest.

Belisle’s mother fled to a friend’s house for safety after an argument turned violent with Belisle, who allegedly has a history of physical abuse with her.

Mille Lacs Tribal Police and Pine County Sheriff’s Office SWAT teams arrived at Belisle’s residence, where he had barricaded himself.

An investigator was able to negotiate with him to leave the residence, and he was taken into custody.

A search warrant was executed and law enforcement found multiple firearms and a bullet hole.

Belisle had previously been charged with first-degree criminal property damage and fifth degree assault in 2023, and has a history of convictions in Wisconsin, including possession of methamphetamine in Burnett County in 2022.

He’ll make his first court appearance for this case on Nov. 27.
