After weeks of anxiously waiting, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has announced that he will be leaving the reopening plans up to individual school districts but called for in-person instruction.
In his executive order, Walz wrote that schools need to adhere to one of the three scenarios laid out by the Safe Learning Plan for 2020-2021. Those three models are in-person, distance learning, and a hybrid of both.
The guidance provided to school districts by the State of Minnesota shows a plan should be selected based on the number of COVID-19 cases per county over a two-week period.
According to recent data from the Minnesota Department of Health, schools in Aikin, Chisago, Isanti, Kanabec, and Pine counties would be able to hold in-person learning.
That being said, the Safe Learning Plan also outlined what must be required in order for schools to hold in-person education.
School districts in East Central Minnesota will be kicking into overdrive with special school board meetings to be held in the coming days to finalize reopening plans.
