The Minnesota Department of Agriculture has confirmed the presence of emerald ash borer in three new locations over the winter, including northern Pine County.
According to a news release, the MDA confirmed an EAB find submitted by a resident in Norman Township.
An EAB infestation was first discovered in Pine County in February of 2024, along Highway 70 in Rock Creek.
The MDA initiated an emergency quarantine in Pine County to limit the movement of ash, material, firewood, and mulch.
According to the release, the MDA expanded the quarantine boundaries after the Norman Township discovery, which puts all of Pine County under full quarantine.
Mille Lacs County was also put under full quarantine due to the proximity of an EAB find in Malmo Township in Aitkin County.
The MDA has recommended adopting the quarantine on May 6.
