The Pine City boys basketball team hosted Proctor Thursday night.
It was senior night which gave the team an opportunity to honor their lone senior in Matt Blake.
It wasn't long after the game began the Dragons looked like a much different team from the beginning of the year. They jumped out to an early lead only surrendering the lead a few times. They lead by as much as 11, that was in large part due to four different players hitting a total of 7 threes in the first half. It felt like the team had finally fixed some early woes and the team was fully bought into the program. Inexperience was an issue at the start of the season, but you wouldn't know it after this game. Pine City lead for nearly all 18 minutes of the 1st half and went into halftime with a 32-25 lead.
The 2nd half was even better, though they didn't hit as many threes as the 1st half, they still found a ton of success in the paint and pulling down second chance scoring opportunities. Matt Blake had a big part in creating those 2nd chances as he had 10 rebounds in the game! The Dragons wouldn't allow the Rails to get any closer than 7 points and slowly but surely pulled away. Pine City would come out on top 73-59, and this was their first home win of the season!
With the win Pine City improves to 4-18 on the season. Their next three games are at home all next week: Milaca on Tuesday, Mille Lacs on Thursday and Rush City on Friday. Each team is either a conference or section opponent and three wins next week would grow their confidence in a big way right before playoffs.
