Pine City hosted Rock Ridge on Thursday in a rare early afternoon battle.
The Wolverines were able to score the first run of the game in the 1st inning, after the scoring runner was able to reach due to an error. In the bottom of the 1st, the Dragons quickly worked to get themselves on the board and tie the game. Mason Charles reached on an error and Bryce Erickson was able to drive him home with a base hit. Isaiah Hasz would also drive in a run to give Pine City a 2-1 lead. After the 1st inning it seemed like the Dragons had momentum to build off of. But the next two innings neither team could put a runner on base.
Then the top of the 4th inning came and Rock Ridge had tow down with a runner on and looked to be headed back on defense. This was not the case as they would go on to score 8 runs on 7 hits to take over the lead 9-2. The 4th and 5th innings saw the Dragons continue to go 3 up and 3 down. Until the 6th inning when it seemed they had finally broke through. After the leadoff batter struck out, Erickson and Hasz both hit singles to get on base. Sadly, Pine City was unable to do anything with the runners on and left the 6th inning still trailing by 7. The Wolverines added 3 more runs in the top of the 7th inning and made quick work of the Dragons to take the win 12-2.
Pine City finishes the regular season with a 14-4 record and sit a 4th in the section. Stayed tuned to WCMP to see where and when the Dragons will play in the first round of playoffs.
