Pine City hosted Two Harbors Friday night in their homecoming matchup.
Last year these two teams played in Two Harbors and it was a very exciting game. It came down to the final play and the Dragons suffered defeat. Everybody could only hope for a game as good as last years.
The Dragons started the game with the ball but couldn't move it downfield and were forced to punt. It wouldn't take long for the Agates to get their offense rolling as they put the first points on the board. Pine City's offense continued to struggle and as quickly as the Agates got the ball back they scored making it 13-0 at the end of the 1st quarter. The turn of the quarter saw both sides of the ball improve for Pine City. Though they allowed Two Harbors to score 14 more points in the 2nd quarter, it looked like Pine City started to get into the flow of things. Down 27-0 going into halftime it would've been easy to say the game was over. But we know the Dragons are much better in the 2nd half of games and if there was a team to go out and score quickly and get within one score of the lead it's Pine City.
But the 2nd half did not go they way of the Dragons at all. Penalties and turnovers again plagued the Dragons. Two Harbors continued to run away with the game and held a 54-0 late in the game. Though the Pine City offense struggled to find their stride in the game they were able to break out a few special plays before the game ended. Tucker Kubesh a Junior o lineman for Pine City lined up in the backfield. He carried the ball and punished defenders on his way to a 12 yard gain. The next carry went to Senior O lineman Nick Plasek and he scampered for another 12 yards. Both would get another carry or two but the defense was not fooled and made the stops. Pine City fell on homecoming 54-0.
The Dragons sit at 1-5 on the season and will host Cloquet on Friday for their final home game of the year.
