The Dragons hosted the Raiders from the Mille Lacs Co-op last night.
The Dragons came into the game looking to stay undefeated in the conference, while the Raiders were looking to pull off the upset.
Pine City lead the game early on, but couldn't seem to pull away. The tempo in the 1st half was different from any other Dragons basketball game, it was slowed. Head Coach Kyle Allen mentioned in the postgame that, they were trying something different to prepare for playoffs when they face better teams. This was also due to the good number of turnovers by both sides. Dealing with turnovers early on Pine City faced another obstacle, fouls. Mille Lacs did a good job of drawing fouls from the Dragons. Despite this the Dragons were still able to build a 30 point lead at halftime 38-8, they were helped by the 8 three's they hit in the first half.
The 2nd half was a much different story. Pine City set the pace early and they were moving at lightning speed. They cleaned up the turnovers and fouls and built on their already huge lead. With the large lead they were able to work in their bench players. One of the key players off the bench was Lamont Sydney. He came in and scored 13 off the bench. He had 13 points and 6 steals. He even dunked the ball after he stole a pass! Though the Raiders were trailing, they showed a ton of fight and heart battling till the final buzzer. Pine City came away with another conference win 80-23.
Pine City moves to 14-5 on the season, and will host Hinckley-Finlayson tonight. Mille Lacs will host Rush City tonight.
