Hinckley-Finlayson hosted Pine City on Tuesday night.
The first set started and the Jaguars came out swinging scoring two quick points and putting the Dragons on their heels. The Dragons didn't let that last long before taking control of the set and taking it 25-12. The 2nd set looked as if Pine City would again runaway with it. But the Jaguars battled hard and after being down at the beginning of the set, they came back and were within only a couple of points of the Dragon lead. The Jags pulled within a single point of the Pine City lead but couldn't tie the set late. Pine City pulled away late in the set scoring 6 unanswered point so end the set 25-18.
As the third set began the Jaguars looked like they had found new life. They traded the lead with Pine City early on as well as tying the score multiple times. Neither team was able to extend their lead beyond a couple of points till late in the set. That's when Pine City was able to pull out in front by 5 at 21-16. The Jags came storming back with two strong points of their own to drop the Dragon lead down to three. But that's when the Dragons pulled away and took the set 25-18 and the match 3-0.
Pine City improves to 4-1 in the Great River Conference standings and will host Ogilvie on Thursday.
Hinckley-Finlayson may have lost but they are certainly a team to keep an eye on. They could be a sneaking team to grab a few upsets along the way. They'll host Mesabi East on Thursday.
