The Dragons hosted rival Rush City last night.
Pine City 70
Rush City 39
Neither team got out to a great start, due in large part to the defenses playing very sound basketball. Both teams were hit with the turnover bug halfway through the opening stanza. The Dragons were able to end the scoring drought caused by the turnovers, and went on a 14-3 run in the next several minutes. Pine City held a 24-8 lead. But the Tigers wouldn't shy away as they closed the gap before halftime. At the end of the 1st half Rush City trailed 29-17. The Tigers looked poised to open the 2nd half with all momentum. But the Dragons forced a couple turnovers early to start the half, and Pine City scored off of them. That was the precursor to a big 2nd half performance by the Dragons. Pine City's offense caught fire, seemingly scoring on every possession. Their offense was complimented by their defense who worked hard at contesting every shot the Tigers took. Though time was winding down Rush City's Alexis Ertz showed out. She worked hard for the rebound on the defensive side of the ball, while flashing past defenders leaving them stuck in the mud on her way to score. The Tigers never gave up and fought with heart till the final buzzer. The Dragons got the victory 70-39. With the win the Dragons won the Great River Conference title for the second year in a row!
The Dragons improve to 13-1 on the season, while Rush City drops to 7-5.
