The Chisago County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the circumstances surrounding the
shooting death of a person in their Fish Lake Township home.
Deputies responded to a home on Elmcrest Avenue around noon on Friday, October 6, 2023, after a family member contacted the Sheriff’s Office to report a possible disturbance. When deputies arrived, they spoke with the complainant. As they approached the residence, deputies heard what they believed to be gunfire coming from within the residence.
The Chisago County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team responded to the scene. A deceased adult
female was located within the residence. An adult male, Mike Larry Carda, age 39, was arrested.
The Chisago County Sheriff’s Investigations Unit and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) responded to the scene.
The Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy on the victim to determine cause and manner of death. The name of the deceased will be released once family notifications are complete.
The Chisago County Sheriff’s Office was assisted with its investigation of this incident
the following agencies: the North Branch Police Department, the Minnesota Bureau of
Criminal Apprehension, the Minnesota State Patrol, the Minnesota Department of Natural
Resources, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, the Pine County Sheriff’s Office, the
Isanti County Sheriff’s Office, the North Branch Fire Department, and Lakes Region EMS.
The Chisago County Sheriff’s Office will provide additional updates as the
investigation progresses.
