Burnett County Sheriff Tracy Finch awarded two people for their efforts during an incident on July 2 during a recent county board meeting.
Grantsburg Fire Chief Corey Barnette and resident Patsy Wenthe were recognized after responders were called to Grantsburg with the report of a man lying in the road. When they arrived, the man reportedly pointed a gun at responders.
"Grantsburg Fire Chief Corey Barnett was able to get the male to surrender the firearm before law enforcement arrived," Finch said in her statement. "The male went to his residence a short distance away. After law enforcement arrived, the male emerged from his home with a gun. The male was taken into custody with the assistance of Patsy Wenthe, who used strong communication skills with the male to convince him to drop the gun. At the time, Patsy was the only person the male would talk to."
Sheriff Finch gave the pair letters of commendation and awards during the Burnett County Board Meeting on Thursday, August 17.
The suspect, a 35-year-old Grantsburg man, is currently facing seven charges including second-degree recklessly endangering safety and intentionally pointing a firearm at law enforcement.
