The Lady Bombers made to the trip to Halenbeck Hall on the campus of SCSU for their section championship game on Friday.
The Bombers and Wolves were playing in a rematch of last years championship game. The Wolves won that game, but Braham was looking for revenge.
Both teams struggled early on to shake off the nerves of playing at such a big stage. But once they did settle in, it was Braham who was able to grab momentum and take an early lead. The Bombers were moving the ball well and even when they didn't make a shot, they were quick to snatch the rebound for a put back. The defense was equally as impressive, they didn't have a ton of steals but forced plenty of turnovers. They were easily outrebounding the Wolves and they would go into the halftime break up 28-16.
It seemed like the Bombers really could do no wrong even as the 2nd half started. The built on their lead and forced the Wolves into some really bad shots. But then the tide turned, as quickly as you could take a breath. Soon it was the Wolves who had ripped all momentum out of the Bombers hands, and it felt like W-H-A who had the lead not Braham. The Wolves not only came from behind but was able to take a lead late. The Bombers were scrambling to try and find someway back, and they did late to tie the game, but this would take us to overtime.
The OT period was as close as a photo finish in NASCAR, neither team was able to get comfortable. As OT was closing to its end it was still tied, but W-H-A had the ball and was taking their time hoping for the final shot. They scored but left the Bombers with 4 seconds to tie or win. After a Braham timeout to discuss their final play, the Bombers quickly scrambled up the court and launched a three, but it was off the mark and the season had come to a close with a 61-59 loss.
The Bombers had a tremendous season and must be proud of what they were able to accomplish. They'll be sad to see the seniors, Ayla Anderson, Olivia Heikes and Alex Rysdam go, but will be thankful for their contributions. This is another team that will return alot of players for another run next year.
Congrats to the Bombers on a great season!
