The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection has identified a case of highly pathogenic avian influenza in a commercial poultry flock in Burnett County.
According to a news release, the department is working together with USDA animal health officials in a joint incident response.
The release states that the affected premises will not move poultry or poultry products, and birds on the property were depopulated to prevent the spread of the disease. Birds from the flock will not enter the food system.
Health officials say HPAI does not present an immediate health concern for the general public.
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services and county public health entities are monitoring exposed farm workers for symptoms.
