Authorities respond to gas leak in Pine City

Authorities responded to a gas leak in Pine City on Monday afternoon.


According to a press release from the Pine County Sheriff's Office, a report of a utility company working in Pine City hitting a gas line in the area of 8th Street Southwest and Johnson Avenue Southwest was called in around 1 p.m.


Deputies and Pine City Fire Department first responders responded to and secured the scene. Residents at three addresses were contacted and asked to leave their houses.


Minnesota Energy Resources was contacted and responded to evaluate the situation. It was determined that the damage was in a location that would require an extensive repair.


Deputies and fire personnel continued to secure the perimeter and evaluate if other residences would need to be evacuated.


The Pine County Sheriff’s Office cleared the area at about 6:30 p.m. Minnesota Energy finished repairs around midnight.


There were no reports of injuries to anyone involved in the incident.
