On Saturday the Dragon tennis team traveled to Hibbing to compete in the Hibbing Invitational. The girls team placed fourth behind Duluth East, Virginia, and Stillwater. Head coach Kristin Unverzagt said, "The girls came ready to play and continue to improve each time they are on the court. It is exciting to see them execute what they have been working on in practice. The girls continue to encourage each other with a common goal to continue to improve each day, practice, and match!"
Lydia Adams finished in third place (1st singles), Ella Sell (2nd singles) was rained out but up in her third place match 6-1, 4-1, Addison Sell took home consolation champ at third singles. Emily Guzik played the first two rounds at 4th singles battling hard but falling short with 2 losses and Claire Emmons finished the final round at 4th singles with a win over Hibbing. In doubles, the duo of Maddie Berglund/Katie Miller took third place, 2nd doubles duo of Sophie Lahti/Allison Unverzagt played three tight matches, and ended the day with a win in the third round, and the rotation of Claire Emmons/Malia Mikyska/Rhaya Merrick took third place overall today at third doubles.
Lydia Adams earned her 100th career victory on Saturday. This is a feat only a few Dragon tennis players have accomplished before her.
The Dragons head to St. Cloud Cathedral on Tuesday and Aitkin on Thursday this week.
