Dragons Celebrate Record Breaking Performance

The Pine City Girls basketball team remained undefeated on the season picking up two wins this week. The Dragons also saw multiple records go down this year during their huge win over Hinckley-Finlayson.

From Coach Ted Hasz:

It was a record breaking week for the Dragons as 4 records were broken. Lily Wilson surpassed Gretchen Linzmeier's career assist record by recording her 422nd assist on Tuesday night against Braham. Lily also surpassed Jenna Olson's career steals record by recording her 355th career steal on Friday night vs Hinckley/Finlayson. Ellie Hasz broke the single game record by hitting 8 3 pointers on Friday against Hinckley/Finlayson the record was previously held by Lily Wilson. In that same game the Dragons recorded the third most threes made in a game in Minnesota girls basketball history with 19 made three pointers (13 in the first half). The team was 19-29 on threes for the game.

The Dragons were able to wear the Bombers down with their intensity on defense and their fast paced offense. The Dragons broke the game open the last 6 minutes of the first half to take a 48-30 lead at half time. Pine City then scored the first 10 in the second half to put the game away. "The kids did a great job of pushing the pace." "Our depth really showed tonight."

There were many Dragons who played well. Jolie Wicktor continues to be a solid guard off the bench for us. She is poised and experienced and has been making great decisions. Chloe Alleman doesn't always stuff the stat sheet but she has been bringing a physical presence that is not measurable but so valuable. Meredith Kolling and Sophie Lahti are starting to get more and more comfortable with their varsity minutes and are starting to play very well. Emily Carpenter and Alaina Steele bring great athleticism and do all the little things that great teams need.

Ellie Hasz continued her solid play with 21 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and three blocks. Lily Wilson was spectacular with 15 points and 9 assists. Hannah Lorsung has been playing at a very high level this season recording 11 points and 7 rebounds. Alaina Steele had 9 points and 4 rebounds. Ashley Faur had a great defensive game and recorded 7 points. Sophie Lahti had 5 points, Meredith Kolling had 4, Emily Carpenter and Ally Chromey had 2 a piece.

To say the Dragons were dialed in from long distance is an understatement. The Dragons mde the 3rd most threes in a game in Minnesota girls basketball history. The team made 19 out of 29 three point attempts. The Dragons broke open the game by hitting 13 threes in the first half and went to the locker room with a 54-23 lead. The Dragons coasted from there to go 2-0 in the conference. Hannah Husom and Makenna Nelson played well in the second half off the bench. Ellie Hasz had 29 points and 6 assists, Lily Wilson had 21 points, 6 assists and 4 steals. Sophie Lahti had 12 points and 7 rebounds. Jolie Wicktor had 6 points. Hannah Husom and Makenna Nelson each had 3 points. Hannah Lorsung and Ashley Faur each had 2 points and Ally Chromey had 1 point.

It was a great start to the conference season. We are focused on daily improvement. We are very happy with the improvements the kids have made from week one of games to week two.
