Mustang Baseball Returns for Another Successful Season

Baseball

The Mora Mustangs are looking to put together another winning season this year returning 7 starters from last year. In fact, six of those seven starters have started for three years. This is a very experienced team for Mora.

The team finished 14-9 last season, but struggled once they hit the section playoffs. That is something they will certainly look to improve on this year. They want to turn the regular season success into playoff victories. Head Coach Jay Pautzke said the team has a lot to prove after last season.

Pautzke would go on to say the Mustangs are in a very tough conference, "We expect to be in the upper half of a tough Granite Ridge Conference (Foley, Cathedral, Albany, Little Falls are all extremely strong – Zimmerman, Becker, and Milaca are much improved programs – there is no night off in the conference). We also expect to contend in Section 7AA. Duluth Marshall is the defending champion and returns pretty much their whole team – so obviously they’re the favorite. Esko returns most everyone from a very talented team – they will definitely be right there – Proctor will be in the mix as well – they are a very well coached team."

Pautzke also noted a couple other games you won't want to miss. "The Granite Ridge Conference will have a strike out cancer week during the week of April 30th – May 4th. We have two home games that week so if people want to contribute to the cause they can get out to our home games during that week. First Light Health Systems will be matching money raised during the week for the Mora games. We will also have other contributors – so that should be a good week for a great cause !!"
