Dragons Earn Victories in Hockey, Boy's and Girl's Basketball.

Boys Hockey

The Pine City Area boys hockey team picked up another important Section 5A victory last night over Sauk Rapids-Rice 4-1. The Dragons got things started early when George Miller scored just 39 seconds into the game. Pine City would add one more before the period was over on a Tommy Ryan goal. Each team scored short handed goals in the second period with Dusty Bergstrom scoring for the Dragons. The third period saw the Dragons spending a lot of time on the penalty kill. Pine City killed off eight minutes of penalties in the third period to fight off the Storm. Jan Zahradka scored an empty net goal in the final minute to seal up the victory. Sophomore Goalie Alex Laven finished with 29 saves on 30 shots. The win was Pine City's 10th of the season and should guarantee them a home playoff game. Pine City will have a couple days of practice before taking on Legacy Christian Academy on Saturday.

Girls Basketball

The Pine City Dragons Girls basketball team fought off a scrappy Pierz team last night picking up the road victory 55-47. The girls improve to 9-1 on the season with their one loss being against a state tournament team from last year. The Dragons will host Section 6AA opponent Foley on Friday.
