Dragons Celebrate Victory Over Tigers

Boys Hockey

For the first time in over 10 years the Pine City Area Dragons defeated the Princeton Tigers Tuesday Night by a score of 2-1. Pine City has gotten used to playing from behind and they had to do that again as Princeton scored the game's first goal. Jack Southard put Princeton on top 1-0 early in the first period on the power play. Pine City would not play from behind for long. Senior captain Jonah Bergstrom answered back with a power play goal of his own late in the first period to tie the score at 1-1. The second period came and went seeing neither team score a goal. Pine City was unable to capitalize on several man advantages during the second period as the game held at one goal a piece. But that tie would not last long into the third period. It only took the Dragons one minute and three seconds into the third period to score the go ahead goal. Jordan Stich scored his first goal of the season for the Dragons giving them the 2-1 lead and the victory. Sophomore goalie Alex Laven earned his first varsity victory saving 18 shots. The Dragons put 24 shots on goal. With the goal, Jonah Bergstrom is now just 34 points away from breaking the all time Pine City scoring record. The Dragons improve to 2-3 on the season and will play Moose Lake on Friday.
